Psychology

The role of the psychologist and why you should meet with one.

It is often challenging to manage a chronic illness alone or to make your loved ones understand, as these diseases are often poorly understood.

Topics that can be discussed with the psychologist:

  • pain
  • fatigue
  • the announcement of a chronic illness diagnosis
  • the feeling of “why is this happening to me, and what will happen to me?”

These topics can be discussed with a healthcare professional, such as a psychologist; a contact will be offered to discuss this.

The psychologist listens to you, guides you, and advises you on alternative approaches to your illness and its treatment through:

  • regular consultations
  • individual, couple, or family therapies
  • group therapies

Sharing your feelings and caring for yourself physically and mentally is very important, as good mental health is essential for feeling better.

We also collaborate closely with the pain management team: Multidisciplinary Chronic Pain Centre.

This will help you manage pain that usual treatments cannot always control.
